Construction of Lawn & Garden Demonstration Site

Phase 1: Two raised beds and a birdbath, May 25, 2006

A local landscaping company constructed two raised beds for the first phase of the demonstration garden.

 

Grass removal from site without the use of chemicals

Gravel added around the edges (stability for the walls)

Shoveling and leveling the gravel to make it even

More leveling of the gravel at the edges of the raised beds

Compacting the gravel with heavy machinery

Laying blocks for wall construction

Laying paper at the base of the bed (to decrease chance grass will come back)

Dumping soil mixture into the beds

Finishing touches - the addition of a birdbath

Ready for planting (GLA Visitor Center in background)
